Swingin' into Session 6

As usual the summer is flying by on what we like to call "Knock Around time," and we're already heading into Session 6! Session 5 brought a lot of good memories including the election of the first Knock Around Presidential Cabinet...Robot, X-Factor, Flash, and Dizzy! In a landslide victory the team delivered on their promises of 2 days of otter pops for snack, 1 day of rootbeer floats, a visit from the only known Southern California wild guinea pig, and a chain of fully clothed counselors doing belly flops! The excitement was evident in the days leading up to the election and especially in the days following the election!

Session 5 was also the Media session for leadership camp where they develop and perform in their own original movie. The Rock had a great time directing the campers through the various scenes of "I Dream of Knock Around". Movie scenes included A Dog's Life, Gorilla Invasion, Liam's Dream, and of course Crash's Nightmare. The film debuted on Friday in Center Hall to rave reviews, with all of Knock Around and many parents in attendance.

Session 6 is off to a blazing start with the introduction of KA's newest camp...DR DR CAMP!!! The week's scheduled events include Dr Dr Circuit training and skills courses, DrDr camp v. leadership battles, and of course lots of opportunities for all campers to play Doctor as we explore every version of the epic camp game.

Murmurs have also started to abound about the summer's most anticipated event...the Carnival!!! This years theme will be Western and it's sure to be a rootin' tootin' good time for everyone there!

KA session 3 is almost over!!!

Following the festivities of session 2 at Knockaround was no easy task, but we have managed to go even bigger for session 3! The counselors were transformed into American Gladiators during the first week and competed in some grueling events including Dodgeball Assault, the Gauntlet, Joust on the inflatable trampoline, Sock War in the padded room, and the impossible Eliminator (a 45 foot monstrosity on the field). I heard that all of the Gladiators slept like babies all weekend (and boy did they deserve it). The Lizard Wizard brought us reptiles, spiders, a hissing cockroach (all of which were placed on Pebbles and Taz's head) to go along with a 10 foot snake on Monday. We flew on our supersonic Knockaround plane (made up of the energies of our creative campers) across the Atlantic to South Africa for a Safari version of Global Kids to go along with our Snowball fight on Wednesday. Leadership Camp ventured into the unknown on their annual camping trip out in Julian and promise to bring home some delicious pies to go along with their experience in the wild. We are about to see our most recent performances from all of our talented campers with end of the session skits and a talent show. And all of the food looks delicious for our memorable end of the session party! Well, The Rock is off to bring pizzas down to Beach Camp and he will surely be back up for the party in the afternoon! Whew, 3 sessions down, 4 stupendous sessions to go!

Beach Camp is off!!!

Just a quick blurb that our first session of Beach Camp is off and running! Everyone got a great swim lesson from The Dude and The Rock the first day to go with some great camp sunglasses. Now we are off to the beach at Scripps for 2 weeks of fun in the sun!

Session 2, Week 2!

We had a spectacular performance to start our week off right with our local magic man Looney Dooney. After many tricks and a few disappearing campers (don't worry they did ultimately re-appear although not until Dr. Dr. in the afternoon) we took a fantastic camp photo to give out at the end of our holiday week. On Wednesday July 1st we celebrated Canada Day with a Global Kids journey to our neighbors from the North, venturing from province to province, hanging out with a moose or two, and then enjoying some fantastic Canadian delicacies, ie Donuts! Friday saw nearly half the camp venturing out for the 4th of July holiday, but the half that remained were in for a tremendous day with a Revolutionary War, Dr. Dr. battle, some wonderful performances from each group, and many flag bearers rounding the camp with Wake's giant American Flag. Now we are off to see some fireworks this weekend!

Session 2, Week 1

Session 2 started with a great first week, culminating on Friday with the annual KA Halloween. This years Halloween was one of the best ever, with clever costumes galore, an entire room of boxes making up the craze maze, and of course lots of trick or treating! (I hear that there may have even been a sighting of the actual Infectious Gorilla, but much like Big Foot, I guess we'll never know the truth...) While KA was enjoying the festivities, Leadership Camp had an adventure of their own...cooking in a campus dining hall! The campers were each given chef hats and a quick lesson on nutrition before diving in and creating spring rolls, pot stickers, stir fry, and chocolate dipped rice krispy treats! The lunch was quite a treat indeed for the campers and their counselors!

Friday also had an extra hype to it because of a challenge that Pebbles had put out to Wake. The two played 1 on 1 basketball and the loser would have their head shaved at lunch. You might be able to figure out how this ended...no more curls for Pebbles! (And it's a good thing too because one of the campers said that they were cheering for Wake because if he lost he'd look hideous!) The campers got to see Pebbles head get shaved at lunch, which was the perfect end to a crazy morning!

Rubber Ducks and a "Dancical"

Session 1 ended on a high note for the K.A. Campers today. The groups were presented with rubber duckies this morning and asked to decorate their own duckies to participate in the Great Rubber Ducky Race. The race was modified this year to take place in the gym, with groups cheering on their duckies in grand fashion. Group 1 came out victorious and consequently were allowed to be the first group dismissed to everything today. After the ducky race, the campers headed to Galbraith Hall to witness the Leadership Camp's play, a "dancical" called The Play of Awesomeness. Leadership Campers did a great job choreographing and performing dances to their favorite games at camp. One of the campers' favorite scenes was the Knock Out boys' dance. The afternoon ended with an end of session party, complete with ice cream for all. Now on to Session 2...

Wam Bam!

The first session of Knock Around is rockin' and rollin'! Campers are enjoying all of the fun activities and counselors are loving getting to know all of the amazing kids. Today we had an all-campus A to Z scavenger hunt! ER's team was the grand prize winner and every team won Smarties. Leadership is working hard to put on a great play for us on Friday, today they had a visit from an improv coach to help get their creativity flowing. Rumor has it there's a dancical in the works. Keep checking back to hear what's going on at KA!
